‘Everything is Awesome…’

satisfied that collectively my
contributors make a big noise every
month, and make every issue special.
I did canvas them for any last minute
items that might add some icing to
the cake but on the whole I am pretty
satisfied with this month’s content.
Welcome aboard to a new Big Builder
- Francesco Pigoli – whose work on
the Zvezda Fencer exemplifies all the
commitment and ‘hands on’
approach that this magazine stands
for. Dave Hooper and the Great War
SIG offer some crucial tips on rigging
in this month’s ‘how to’ feature, and
Tony Grand weighs in with
something that is almost mainstream
– don’t worry though. I have his E-7
waiting in the wings so business as
usual from this source soon.
Readers cannot have overlooked
the enthusiasm with which we greet
the new Kinetic Sea Harrier either. No
apologies here for a fanfare to greet a
long overdue new kit of one of the
best fighter planes ever, so it’s
another big mix. Scratchbuilding,
superdetailing, builds from the box,
Classic kits, and all the usual stuff,
only more than ever, so I can say with
complete confidence that, yes,
“everything is, indeed,
awesome.

No surprises for guessing
what has constituted the
soundtrack in this
household over the summer!
Actually we are divided – torn
between the disciplines of Lego
and Minecraft, with both children
switching between the computers
in the office, where raucous You
Tube pundits post videos of their
virtual escapades in the digital
realm, and the encroaching sea of
coloured bricks that now begins to
dominate the living room carpet,
and upon which I should oblige
myself to kneel for an hour in
penitent contemplation before
submitting these editorials for
publication, the better to prevent
indiscretions and deliberate slips
of the tongue from making it past
the proofreader and into print.
The Victorian approach would be
to banish them from the computers
and set them at the Lego, on the
grounds that ‘all that computer stuff
is bad for them’ and that building
Lego space ships is somehow more
creative and will not destroy their
brains, but I am not entirely certain
this is true in this day and age.
Minecraft – virtual Lego with
optional zombie attacks if you have
not come across it – is an amazing
creation, and something I would
have given an arm for when I was
eight. I sometimes fondly imagine
the pair of them sat at the table with
me building model aeroplanes, but
so far no interest. That’s fine. They
know the option is there if they want
it, likewise they tolerate my
occasional interference with the Lego
Star Wars collection: “Oh Daddy! Jedi
don’t have
red
light sabres…”
A more sinister development has
been the arrival of ‘Match Attax’
cards, which Hugo now collects
obsessively. Fortunately his interest
in the game of football extends no
further than lists of names and filling
gaps in a collection, something the
trainspotter within me warms
towards. As yet he has shown no
interest in actually playing or
watching it. I am thus far spared.
So what of the
SAMI
team? What
are we up to this month? It is, of
course, the ‘issue-on-sale- at- Telford’,
for which we traditionally make an
enormous fuss. I have elected this
year not to do this, though, as I am
