GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The ISD-SD101 Sound Development and Program-
ming System is a PC-based system that provides
users with a tool to develop high-quality sound
and voice messages, and subsequently program
these messages onto ISD ChipCorder voice
Record and Playback devices. The Sound Devel-
opment and Programming System consists of
one eight-socket desktop programming pod,
Sound Mapper™ software, one PC add-in digital
controller board (half slot), Programmer Soft-
ware, one Sound Blaster 16 WavEFFECTS™ sound
board, Sound Blaster 16 WavEFFECTS sound soft-
ware, and all the necessary cables. The ISD-
SD101 is engineered to interface with any 386-
based PC (or greater) and a VGA monitor.
The ISD-SD101 enables messages to be positioned
into exact address locations with Sound Mapper
software, an interactive “windows-like” graphi-
cal user interface. In the case of the ISD2500 Se-
ries devices, up to 600 different address locations
per device are available. This allows users to start
and stop messages at precise locations, in addi-
tion to maximizing the storage capacity of each
ISD part. Once a master recording has been cre-
ated, Programmer Software monitors the chip
record level for consistent quality and programs
up to eight ISD voice record/playback devices si-
multaneously.

A 386-based PC (or greater) (XT and PS/2 are
not supported).
At least 4 MB of system RAM and 8 MB of hard
disk space.
MS-DOS™ 3.3 or later and Windows™
versions 3.1 or 3.11.
Two uncommitted bus slots (one 16-bit slot
and one 16- or 8-bit slot).
VGA display monitor and mouse (pointing
device).
Line printer @ LPT1 (optional).

The file or files to be programmed into the
ISD device are loaded into the ISD-SD101
Programming Software.
The graphical interface of the ISD-SD101
software is used to prepare each sound file
for loading into the ISD device memory.

The sound waveform, EOM locations
and unused space are visually identifi-
able and can be trimmed as needed.

When the required trimming and level set-
ting of the sound files is achieved, the soft-
ware allows the generation of an address
map of the sound files and creates a .chp
file for programming one to eight ISD de-
vices at a time.
TYPICAL OPERATION
The following sequence would typically be fol-
lowed to program one or more ISD devices:
1.
Record original program material via any
available analog or digitally mastered
means.
The original program material is loaded
into a PC's memory (using the sound
board, if in analog format).

Input .wav files must have been sam-
pled at 22050 Hz In the monophonic 8-
bit mode.

Use the sound editor program to do final
preparation of the words, etc., to be load-
ed into the ISD device.
Please note that the above adaptor will require
minor modification to accommodate the ISD
.350 inch SOIC (G) package.
The smaller SOIC (S) package will not need this
modification.
This might include noise reduction, elim-
ination or addition of quiet space,
change of volume levels, addition of re-
verberation, fade-in, fade-out.
4.
The sound editor program generates one
file per word, sound or phrase in .wav for-
mat. Each .wav file is then converted to a
.voc file for input to the ISD-SD101.
