Where does the “Franzburg”
0-4-0 T built by Märklin - LGB
at 1/22.5 scale come from?
The Franzburger Kreisbah-
nen was a 67 km metre gauge
network, which served the area
west and north of Stralsund, an
important city of the Baltic Sea.
Its name “Kreis Franzburg”
came from an administrative
district of the former Prussian
province of Pomerania.
Opened in 1895, this network
operated with six locomotives
No. 0-4-0 T 1-6, built from
1893 to 1894 by Vulkan in Bre-
dow near Stettin. The end of the
network occured early on, in
the 1960s. At that time, it had
the particularity of running two
modern Brissonneau and Lotz
railcars of French origin, from
the Morbihan Railway, acqui-
red in 1940!
At the network closure, loco
No. 5 was exposed in front
of the company building LGB
in Nuremberg until 2009,
then became private property
in Schwabisch Gmund. Loco
No. 4 operates on the museum
railway Eisenbahn Verein DEV
in Bruchhausen-Vilsen, and this
is the prototype built by Märklin
- LGB.

Bemo : an 0-8-0 T

Bemo produces an 0-8-0 T
Orenstein & Koppel from the
Nowawes factory, built in 1924. This 21T
and 750 mm gauge locomotive is equip-
ped with
Klien-Lind-
ner axles,
just
as
the DFB
engines. Its
last service
was to ensure the shunting in Zittau sta-
tion in Saxony, and since 1989 is kept
as a museum machine, though unfortu-
nately not in working order. The model
ref. 1012 812, assembled and painted,
or ref. 1012 810, as a kit, is fitted with a
coreless motor and a pre-equipped with
a NEM651 plug.

Here’s a lovely little red DR two
axles van, with a platform on one
end, number KDaai 905 156. It was
built in April 1989 by the workshops
of Perleberg for the Harz network on
the frames of a 1909 box van from
Görlitz ex-NWE 336, and ex-DR Gw
99-02-08.
Tillig’s reproduction is superb, the axle-
boxes are equipped with brass bea-
rings. Standardized couplings are
factory fitted but prototypical couplings
are provided in the box. Available in 9
or 12 mm gauge.
Following is an open wagon DR 99-03-
24 from the HSB park, the new opera-
tor of the Harz network. It is originally

424, and metallized in the early 90s.
This beautiful model is fitted with brass
bearings axleboxes, and comes with
brake shoes and prototypical cou-
plings to be mounted by the modeller.
Available in different references for 9

Yet another narrow-gauge
model by Architecture &
Passion
Christophe Constant has just
completed the iconic trams-
tation shed of Pithiviers in
Toury. The lasercut card-
board model
allows you to
build either a
pargeted ver-
sion, or the bare
brick shed that it
used to be during the last years of operation of the line. The
kit is part of the Easy Deco range. It is primarily intended for
modellers who want to rapidly obtain an eye-pleasing result,
which is achie-
ved through some
small structural
simplifications.

There are at least two very motivated retail-
ers who sell the MinitrainS equipment for
modellers. Both have an online store and are
to be seen at national exhibitions almost every
weekend. Visit their website or meet them per-
sonally during one of these events.
Architecture & Passion (www.architecture-
passion.fr) offers a few models of the range,
mostly for industrial railways, which is con-
sistent with the type of building sold by this
craftman. Shipping is very fast, subject to
availability of equipment. Payment can be
made via PayPal.
Boutique Train (www.boutique-train.fr) has the
complete MinitrainS range on offer. The site
lists the available models, which will be deliv-
ered within a week, or those to be ordered,
which will require a delivery time of about two
weeks. Payment is made via a secure website,
by check or wire transfer.

Where to find
MinitrainS in France?

The DFB tenders are an essen-
tial element right behind your
0-8-0 T ; they are available from
MinitrainS. This specific equipment
was created at the turn of the nine-
teenth century and consists of an
impressive water tank carrying two
seats, a toolbox and a strainer for
refilling, with a support for winding
the hose. The set is mounted on
two Feldbahn bogies. Two versions
existed, the small and the large, with
respectively 3150 and 5000 litres in
capacity. You could load up to res-
pectively 1000 and 1200 kg of coal
on the tank. In their civilian lives,
these tenders were often used as
backup tanks.
MinitrainS: DFB tenders
The MinitrainS model is amazin-
gly delicate, so much so that the
brake wheels and the tiny valves
are extremely fragile. The model
is mostly moulded in plastic,
but it also has some Arcap
photoetched parts. The
model is equipped with
couplers and the rollabi-
lity is quite exceptional,
so there might be trouble
ahead! It is available in two ver-
sions: in military grey with black
lining and the manufacturer’s plate
of Orenstein & Koppel, or in black
with red lining and the manufactu-
rer’s plate of Borsig, as preserved in
the Frankefurther Feldbahnmuseum.
