How to use the ESAComp-HyperWorks interface (quick start)

INTRODUCTION
HYPERWORKS TO ESACOMP
After installing the ESAComp toolbar (see HyperWorks folder in ESAComp installation directory), the
ESAComp toolbar becomes available in HyperMesh Desktop.
One needs to have both the model open in HyperMesh and the results in HyperView in the same
session. While in HyperMesh being active, simply select "Export to ESAComp" from the toolbar.
HyperMesh asks for a file name for saving and the elements to be exported.
Your file, or in case you do not have HyperWorks the example file "HW-element-export-to-
ESAComp.csv" for illustration of the functionality, can be imported in ESAComp via the main menu
item "Import" -> "HyperWorks". There the user needs to choose the right unit system and can the
analysis options. When the tick box for automatic post-processing is active, the results are
automatically calculated, displayed and saved in the folder from which the data was imported with

the original file name + "_layer_results". The user can do detailed post-processing on certain
elements and create, for example, through the thickness plots for stresses, strains and failure values.
ESACOMP TO HYPERWORKS
"HW-export_layer_results.csv" contains the element results post-processed by ESAComp. You can
import these results via "ESAComp toolbar" -> "Import from ESAComp".
This will open 3 pages containing contour plots for reserve factor, critical layer ID and critical layer
orientation. The layer-results are part of the result file, but not mapped in the current version
(HyperWorks 12) of the interface.
Following code can be used in the HyperWorks "Notes" panel to display element ID, failure mode and
critical layer information as floating text on the element.
