University Associate
Professor has been
removed from his post
following his image ap-
pearing on the label of
cans of Holy City Brew-
ing. Paul Roof’s photo-
graph was taken at a
beard and beer conven-
tion and was then used
and manipulated into
his likeness which ap-
pears on both the labels
and t-shirts produced
by Holy City Brewing.
Mr Roof received no
compensation for the
use of his likeness, nor
was he aware that it
was even being used.
The Simpsons famous Duff beer will break the 4th wall to enter the Australian beer
market. A pop up Moe’s Tavern has been planned at the Woolloomooloo Bay Motel
which will serve Duff beer as well as Krusty Burgers, another staple of the long run-
ning animated show. This will be the first instance where an official Duff beer has
been created with the blessing of Matt Groening, the creator of the show, and 20th
Century Fox. The beer will be available in 355ml cans. There are no reports as of yet
to confirm that the beer will be dispensed by Duff.
WORLD CUP FEVER GOES GLOBAL
Beer imports in the South Eastern Chinese city of Xiamen have increased dramati-
cally in the build up to this year’s FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Football and beer seem
to go hand in hand, and millions of us around the world will have a glass or a bottle
of the stuff clasped in one hand as we watch the action unfold. There will certainly
be no shortages for beer drinkers in Xiamen, where the cities customs officials say
an astonishing 2.82 million litres have been imported between January and April,
an increase of 308.8 percent on the same period last year. Beer imports reached a
peak of 1.2 million litres in April alone. The manager of the Xinkui Trade Company,
Xiamen’s biggest beer importer has said that the launching of World Cup-themed
promotions in the run up to the event have contributed the rapid increase in the
volume of sales. The competitive prices and variety of foreign beer has encouraged
increasing numbers of Xiamen residents to consume beer produced out with China
in recent years.

ZOO BEER OR
NOT TO BEER
In a brilliant move, the Louisville
Zoo in Kentucky will begin sell-
ing beer on site. The move comes
about as an effort to improve the
finances of the zoo and become
more financially independent from
the local government. The offer-
ings on sale include national beers
such as Bud and Budlight, but
will also feature locally brewed
craft beers as well. Estimates on
increased revenue range between
$100,000 and $125,000 per annum.
Some members of the communi-
ty feel that the move is unwise
and goes against the family atmo-
sphere at the zoo. Regardless, the
plan is going ahead and will be a
welcome source of income for the
zoo. Many other American zoos
offer beer to visitors, such as ones
in Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Colum-
bus and St. Louis.
Airpocalypse
A microbrewer in Bei-
jing has decided to
make light of the city’s
burgeoning air pollu-
tion problems by offer-
ing patrons free beer if
the pollution level goes
off the charts. Jing A
Brewery’s Airpocalypse
beer is named after the
2013 event in which
Beijing’s air pollution
literally went off the
charts. Airpocalypse is
intended as a tribute
to the people of the
city who have to deal
with these problems
on a daily basis. By
making a positive of
offering free beer to pa-
trons, brewer Kristian
Li hopes to raise the
spirits of the people of
Beijing, despite living
in a heavily polluted
environment.
SAUGATUCK SUCCESS
USA, Saugatuck Brewing Co. plans to
expand the distribution of its products
to the Ohio and Minnesota markets,
the company announced last week.
The microbrewery plans to offer its
products in northern Ohio after signing
agreements with Beverage Distribu-
tors of Cleveland and Toledo-based
House of Munch, as well as expand
into Minnesota thanks to a deal with
St.Cloud-based Bernick’s. “We are very
pleased to add these two craft beer
savvy markets to Michigan and Illinois
as we continue to grow our production
and expand our distribution footprint,”
Ric Gillette, president and CEO of Sau-
gatuck Brewing, said in a statement.
Events to mark the company’s entry
into the Ohio market are scheduled to
start the week beginning the 19th of
May in Cleveland and the week begin-
ning the 26th of May in Toledo. Distri-
bution to Minnesota starts on the 1st
of June. Saugatuck Brewing Co. was
founded in 2005 and produces 15 differ-
ent beer styles. The company’s beers
are distributed throughout Michigan
and in the metro Chicago area.
