Welcome
It’s starting to feel like the
Eighties nostalgia trend is
reaching its zenith. You
can’t escape it, whether it’s
the Marvel soundtracks,
the glorious neon in B-movies, the
omnipresent Carpenter synths or every
little thing in
Stranger Things.
The Eighties
are more popular now than they were
back then, so you’d be forgiven for
starting to find it all a little wearying. But
there’s an undeniable power to nostalgia,
and those of us who grew up on movies,
shows, games and music from that era
find ourselves irresistibly drawn to this
stuff. So, the fact that
Ready Player One,
the biggest nostalgia bible of our times,
is being brought to the screen by Steven
Spielberg is undeniably exciting. This
is the man who gave us so much
of what we’ve seen endlessly
referenced and homaged over
the last few years, and we can’t
wait to see what kind of new
memories he’ll create.
Pacific Rim: Uprising
will
undoubtedly hit some sweet
spots for anyone who’s ever got
even slightly obsessive about anime
and monster movies, which John
Boyega tells us is exactly what drew
him to the sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s
blockbuster. Jeremy Dyson and Andy
Nyman’s
Ghost Stories
is the perfect
chiller for those of us who were scared to
turn out the light after finishing one of MR
James’ short stories, and Nicolas Cage’s
horror comedy
Mom And Dad
has the
wit and wild unpredictability of a lost
Seventies cult classic.
That being said, it’s also thrilling to be
shown something entirely new, which
is why we were so excited to talk to the
cast and crew of the sensational
X-Men
TV series
Legion.
If they can muster a
second season that’s even remotely close
to being as wonderful as their first, we’re
in for a treat.
A blend of the old and the new is
always a sweet spot for genre fans and
this issue offers exactly that.

We were so excited to finally get our
first look at Brad Bird’s long-awaited
sequel to his 2004 superhero smash
when the trailer hit last month, and
as soon as Bob, Helen, Violet and
Dash appeared, it felt like no time
had passed at all. There’s some great
additions to the cast, including Bob
Odenkirk and Catherine Keener, and
we can’t wait to see what’s next for
the Parr family.
