INTRODUCTION
In
Warlord of the Gravitic Portal
your players will face off
against the evil Martian warlord Yathlax. They’ll chase him
across vast reaches of Martian wilderness, into the hidden
libraries of a holy city, and finally into the deepest recesses
of an ancient Martian ruin. With the fate of not one, but two
planets hanging in the balance they’ll need to have their
RAY guns charged and their Mark III Rocket Packs fueled!
Warlord of the Gravitic Portal is an adventure designed for
any number of players, though it is best suited for 2 to 6
characters of no more than 15 Story Points.
Yathlax the Eye was once great among the Maduri. A true
martial artist, he mastered warfare in every way. Whether it
was hand-to-hand combat, marksmanship, or training and
leading other Maduri, Yathlax found joy in the art of war. He
reveled in the chaos of battle and pressing his will to control
the madness of conflict. He was so calculating in battle that
he became known as Yathlax, the Eye of the Storm, or more
commonly Yathlax the Eye.
In his service to Princess D’larna he rose to become her
personal bodyguard, serving her with honor and zealotry.
That all changed when he looked into her eyes two years
ago. In her beauty he found his blood boiling in new ways.
He desired her as he had never desired anything. But he was
not yet willing to break his vows to have her.
With a great number of Maduri willing to lay down their
life at his bidding, Yathlax conceived a plan. He convinced
his loyal soldiers to stage an attempted kidnapping of the
princess and in this farce he would rescue her and show his
prowess, thus earning her affections.
But his plans went astray. Yathlax did not arrive in time to
show his valor and several of his men were slain or fled into
the Martian Wilds. At the bidding of her counselors Princess
D’larna had her entire royal guard restaffed so that a second
coup could not be attempted. Yathlax was ordered away. In a
last, desperate attempt to win the princess he confessed his
love and his treason to her. For this, he was given a sentence
of death. But when the princess’ guards tried to seize him,
Yathlax fought them off and fled the city. That’s where our
heroes come in.
The Princess, at the bidding of her advisers, has hired the
characters to track down Yathlax. They know only that he
was part of an assassination attempt and that the Maduri
and high guard are very dangerous. That was several weeks
ago and our adventure begins in media res as the characters
are closing in on the mad Maduri.
But little do they know that Yathlax has a plan – as he
always does – a plan revolving round the ancient Martian
technology known as the Gravitic Portal…
INTRO MONTAGE
Thrill to the adventures of Rocket Age starring (player

. We rejoin our heroes in pursuit of
the rogue Maduri warlord Yathlax, where their cunning
foe has led them into a trap!
REEL ONE:
PREDATORS TURNED TO PREY
After tracking Yathlax for several weeks across the wilds
of Mars, the characters finally have him cornered in a box
canyon. But, after a powerful storm and the arrival of some
mysterious strangers, our heroes find themselves whisked
away to new dangers! The Gamemaster is encouraged to
open the adventure with the text below so the players (and
their characters) realize that they’re in the thick of things
right from the start.

SCENE ONE: A DEADLY AMBUSH
Maybe the money was too good to pass up. Maybe
it was the smiling eyes of Martian Silthuri Princess
D’larna of U’Lavir that you couldn’t refuse. Or maybe it
just seemed like a good idea at the time. After over an
Earth-month tracking the rogue Maduri warrior Yathlax
across endless Martian wastes, you thought this job was
coming to a close.
Hot on his heels you and your companions tracked
him to a small canyon in the wastelands just on the
edge of the Empty Desert. That’s when he sprang
the ambush. With you pinned down by his Maduri
snipers, Yathlax has gone from hunted to hunter and
now you’re in his sights.
The beams are flying fast and loose and the last one
was just a bit too close to your head for comfort! If you
don’t do something – and fast! – you’ll be carrion for
the wild packs of bahmoots that wander the red wastes!
In addition, to help aid in covering his escape Yathlax
may take surgical shots with his RAY rifle at the canyon
walls, hoping to cause a cave in to allow him to escape
in the chaos.
On the far side of the canyon Yathlax and his loyal
warriors have several bahmoot mounts hidden to facilitate
their speedy escape.
YATHLAX THE EYE
The adventure begins in the middle of the action. After
tracking the rogue Maduri warrior Yathlax across the
wilderness of Mars, the characters have had the tables
turned on them – Yathlax has led them into an ambush!
Yathlax is an experienced warrior who takes any tactical
advantage available to him. He has with him a small
collection of devoted warriors. In addition to Yathlax
there are a number of Maduri warriors with him: 2 for
ever y character. Yathlax and his men are positioned at
the top of the box canyon and have the characters pinned
down behind a large ridge of sand and rock.
While Yathlax himself is ver y well armed because of his
former position as a Maduri of respect and renown, the
soldiers in his service are not. One third of his soldiers are
female. The males under his command are armed with
bows and hamaxes, while the females are armed with
arrow casters and battle axes.
Yathlax is not a fool and will take advantage of his superior
position. The Gamemaster is encouraged to make use of
Stor y Points to maintain this advantage and, if the war-
leader loses one-third of his troops, he will order a tactical
retreat. In the event of a retreat, Yathlax and his men will
make their exit by way of a narrow passage down the
backside of the ridge and escape into the wilderness.

Driven mad by a love denied, Yathlax is now hellbent
on making Princess D’larna both love him and pay
for scorning him. Since discovering the mythical
Gravitic Portal on one of his missions, he has become
obsessed with using it. He believes that if Princess
D’larna loves Earth so much, then he shall give her
Earth – the entire planet. In his mad mind he believes
that his by combining his gift and retribution into a
single act he is being particularly romantic. He cares
nothing for the countless lives that will be lost. He
only seeks revenge for his unrequited love.

CAVE IN!
When things begin to go badly for Yathlax he will attempt
to cave the canyon in around the characters. By taking
precise shots at the canyon walls and succeeding in 3
Coordination + Marksmanship rolls (Difficulty 12), Yathlax
is able to cause the collapse of the canyon. Any player
character who is within 3 meters of the canyon wall must
succeed at an Awareness + Athletics or Coordination +
Athletics roll (Difficulty 15) to avoid being caught in the
falling rocks and taking 4 levels of damage. Characters
who suffer a Disastrous failure are pinned beneath the
rubble. They take an additional 2 levels of damage each
round until their allies can rescue them by attempting a
Strength + Athletics roll (Difficult 15). A Normal success
means it will take 3 rounds to free them. 2 rounds are
required with a Good success and a Fantastic success
means they can be freed in a single round.

STORY POINTS:

Loyal to a fault, Yathlax’s soldier are cold, calculating
and tactical. They are completely and absolutely loyal
to their master, though they are not particularly creative.
They will follow orders, but rarely take initiative on their
own. Instead they wait to be prompted by the glorious
leader who has promised their return to honor.
