Frenzy's Inquisitor FAQ
(Frequently Asked Questions)

1. I found a Site which contains around 50 Images, i want
to download. Must i click on every Images to select them for download ?

Answer:
No. Simply rightclick in Selectbox or on Download-Button to
select all Images from within displayed Page.

2. I found a Site, which contains 7 further "Sub"-Sites, which i could open by clicking on the link above.
Every of this 8 pages contains up to 50 Images.
How do i Download all Images from all 8 Pages ?

Answer:
Simply open the first Page, click "Follow Link", and then "Download". Inquisitor will "Follow" all links from the 1st HTML-Page, and download all Images of the prefered FileType you've selected.

3. But i have 10 HTML-Pages, which are not linked in the 1st Page. All Sites are seperate Pages, which i can't reach from any page to another. How do i download all these Images from all pages ?

Answer:
Well, you have to put all the HTML-Pages in the Selection (maybe found by the HTTPscanner, or load all URLs in History, and then import the History2Selection). If Inquisitor found HTML-Files (or equivalent Files, which normally contains HTMLsource) in your selection, and the selected FileType is NOT "HTML", it will download all Files from within these Pages, of the selected FileType when you press the "Download"-Button.

4. Some Sites will displayed even faster than others. Why ?

Answer:
Hm, that's while Inquisitor load all files to it's cache. If you have visited a Site of the same domain before, not all elements of the Page will downloaded from the Server. That means Inquisitor looks first in the cache. If it finds a page-element there, it will NOT downloaded from the server (if "FICS" is turned on !). Except such Images which are "Thumbnails" (which you want to see, so that you could select the prefered images for download). Inquisitor will load all Thumbnails from the Server, even if another site of the same domain was visited before.
-A previous visited site will allways loaded from the cache, without going online. Inquisitor is also an offline "Browser" which looks everytime FIRST in the cache, before trying to get online. So some elements of some pages come from the cache. That's why these pages will load faster, cause the files will not downloaded from the internet.

5. OK, but if a site has changed. How do i download the new Page ?

Answer:
Simply clear the Site from the cache !
Use: Tools > Clear Cache > Clear actual page (after you've entered the URL of this site)
If you use: "clear actual Domain" ALL Pages from the actual Domain will cleared. In this case Inquisitor needs much more time to download the first (complete) Page into the cache.

6. I don't want to download Images. My site contains ".ZIP"-Files. Can i download all ".ZIP"-Files too ?

Answer:
Yes. Select "ZIP" as the prefered "FileType", and everything is just like as it where images...

6a. I'm looking for ".MPG"-Files. How ...

Answer:
Have a look on point 6.

7. I found a cool site which contains some great Fantasy images.
But they are not linked directly as ".JPG"-Files "behind" the Thumbnails. There are some ".PHP" links "behind" the Thumbnails,
which i see on the page. How do i download such images ?

Answer:
You could normally select ".PHP", "HTML" (or equivalent) Files; even if the prefered "FileType" is ".JPG". Inquisitor looks in your selection, and try to download the desired images from within the ".PHP" (or "HTML", etc.) files.
This MAY NOT work 100% correctly !
It's a very complex function, where Inquisitor only can TRY to download the right image. This is cause Inquisitor could not "see" the images as Thumbnails and the Images within a link (like you with your eyes); so it uses a special function to "guess" which is the right image. It's even harder, if the linked ".PHP", or ".HTML" (etc.) File contains more than 1 image.
But in 94% of all cases it will work fine.
If you find some sites, which don't work, you may mail me the URL.

8. I couldn't display some sites, why ?

Answer:
Maybe a site could not longer reached by entered URL, or a special file (like "index.html") is not longer available.
Even some link-collection-sites may be full of "death"-links...
1st try the page with another browser (Inquisitor is NOT a browser. It's more likely a SiteRipper, which "acts" like a "normal" browser). If it fails too, you may have a problem with your internet-connection, or you've found such a "dead"-link.
If that works, look if the URL is correct. If it's OK, than you should try the URL without a speicial file, or clear Inquisitors cache (it's possible, that a site got an error before, so that a defect file is in the cache. Inquisitor don't look for a newer file in the internet, if it's been found in the cache).

9. A site looks something "curious", as in other browsers. Why ?

Answer:
That may be, cause Inquisitor is NOT a "Browser" !
It's a SiteRipper which "acts" LIKE a "normal" Browser.
You have to display these sites with your prefered Browser. -Inquisitor is only a tool to download multiple files from a site, but is NOT a Browser !

9a.
But if i ...

Answer:
NO !
Inquisitor should NOT "replace" your favorite browser !

10. Some sites redirect me to completely other sites i don't want to see. I've heard that i could display such sites with Inquisitor. Is that true ?

Answer:
Yes. You could display SOME sites, even if they are "redirected" (captured). But this will not work on every site.
Only around 80% of each captured sites will displayed correctly.
Simply turn on the "Infiltrator-Mode" from the Options-Menu.
-Some Infos about the "Infiltrator-Mode":
A "normal" Browser follows each redirection like a stupid "lemming", which the server tells to it (even if it was a redirection to a completely different domain).
With Inquisitor you have the control about the "depth" of redirections. If you turn this off, Inquisitor will wait as long as it get the right answer, from the right server (domain).
But it may never get the right answer, if the server is down.
So it tooks up to 2 Minutes, to recognize that the site does not open...

11. I have some cool URLs in a Textfile. May I import them into Inquisitor ?

Answer:
Yes. If your Textfile only contains full resolved URLs, each in a seperate Line, you may import them via "Load History"-Function.
If you "export" your loaded History to selection, it's possible to download ALL Images from ALL your (saved) URLs; simply by clicking on the "Download"-Button.

12. Sometimes Inquisitor may "hang" by "resolving URL". Is this a Bug ?

Answer:
No. If you set "TimeOut=0" it may take up to 2 Minutes (or more) for Inquisitor to check out, if a "Dead"-Link was entered.
Wait the 2 Minutes, and everything is gone fine. You may "filter" this URL with rightclick on the "STOP"-Button, so that this URL will not entered again for your Inquisitor Session.

13. Can I continue browsing on the 2nd Page while Inquisitor downloads over 100 Images in the 1st Page ?

Answer:
No !
If Inquisitor do it's work (regardless in which of the 2 pages), it's impossible to continue Browsing.
You may open another instance/window of Inquisitor.

13a. But if i...

Answer:
NO !
You HAVE to open anoter instance/window of Inquisitor.
Choose: "New Window" from the "File"-Menu.

14. If i run 2 instances of Inquisitor, and download the images in the same destination Directory, the total-counter does not show the current value. What is wrong ?

Answer:
Nothing. This is cause each instance of Inquisitor count it's own downloaded files. Leftclick on the totalcounter to actualize the value.

15. It's impossible to load some Pages. If i enter the URL Inquisitor says: "forbidden". What's that ?

Answer:
Maybe you have a "filter" set on this domain. In this case clear the URL and rightclick the "STOP"-Button to reset the filter.
Or you have "KiddieMode" (Tux hold a red baloon in front of a pink background) turned on, and want to load a Page which contains dangerous material for little children. In this case turn off "KiddieMode" (in OptionsMenu).

16. I want to download the displayed Thumbnails, instead of the links "behind". How can i do this ?

Answer:
Choose "only Thumnails" from OptionsMenu, and select the desired Thumbnail-Images, just like "normal" links. Indicated by a "red" LinkType-Icon.

17. OK, but if i want a Thumbnail without a link "behind" ?

Answer:
Choose additionally "Make Non-Links Available" from OptionsMenu, and refresh the Page. Now you can download every image as it where "normal" links. Indicated by a "red" FileType-SpinBox.

18. Inquisitor has downloaded more than 1GB Images on my HardDisk, and now i have no space left. Who can i procecute ?

Answer:
Yourself !
Inquisitor do only things, that YOU select !
It doesn't download things by itself; it's a tool controlled by you. If your Hardisk is full, buy a bigger one, or look if you could delete some files, or burn them on CD.

19. My question isn't answered here. What ca i do ?

Answer:
Make a funny face ?!
No; Look, if you find an option which do the things you want. Or simply try some options, and look what Inquisitor do.
Maybe you can ask some questions on Project-Homepage:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/inquisitor/
If you still have a (good) question (see below !), you can send me an eMail (have a look at point 20).

20. Haha, but i have some really cool ideas, what Inquisitor could also can do. Where may i contact the author ?

Answer:
OK, but 1st try to solve the problem/question by yourself !
-I don't want to answer questions like: "What is a leftclick ?", "Where can i find a right Mousekey ?", or "What is a .ZIP-File ?", or something like that.
