Split the logo
On the way to her beautiful logo for the Jennifer Diamond Foundation, designer Karen
Barranco rendered several promising sketches as complete stationery. While the
sketches didn’t make the cut, the stationery looks great. One useful technique:
Words and image
are often
designed as interwoven elements,
as we see on the business card
above. But they don’t need to be . . .
Together, apart or alone
. . . Instead, they can be designed to work independently. The result is flexible; each can be
used where it’s strongest or most appropriate —alone in tight quarters (text only ) or low-res
environments (image only). Apart they can double the message; note above how opposite
sides of the envelope reinforce each other. Color is the connector.
