Recently I came across a forum online, which asked
the question, “Why do people like small things?” After
reading all of the responses, I noticed one consistent
answer in the long string of replies. With some
thought and a little meditation, I have attempted to
put it into reasoning. It seems that after walking this
earth for some time and getting very familiar and
intimate with our “full-scale” lifestyles, we start to crave
a bit more stimulation to overcome the day-in/day-
out way of seeing the world.
We are human and are conditioned to
constantly strive for more. If you are a creative sort,
then you will want that “more” to be a new way of
seeing things or a different way of thinking.
So when someone who is yearning to see things in
a different light first comes across a tiny little chair
that was crafted just as intricately as a normal-scale
chair would be, the spark is instantly lit.
You begin to think, ‘Why not invent your own
personal small world that you can live in to add
a bit of spice to the real one you are living?’ Once
discovering that, you can create an endless
amount of these small pieces of fantasy much
faster and more affordably than building them in
real life—then you are hooked. This by no means is
to say that you are not happy with your reality, but
more so that perhaps your reality just needs a bit
of magic and wonder.
I believe it is in our nature to create and dream.
Without those traits then what’s the point?
Hopefully this issue of
AM
will help you to dream
and to build your own little world.
