ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTION
The proposed L-29 Delfin /Dolphin/ model represents the standard Warsaw Pact Jet trainer aircraft,
that appear in the mid sixties of 20-th century and is still in service in may countries till now.
The model is comparatively easy to be built but its high level of similarity to the real aircraft requires
special attention and high precision during the assembly process.
Before start the assemblage study carefully the illustrative drawings, cutouts and present instruction.
Try to imagine the separate assembly phases and the purpose of each detail.
After the acquaintance with the model, you may start the assemblage. Follow the sequence given in
the instruction. Cut the necessary details shortly before using them in order to avoid possible
mistakes. Score all fold lines before cutting the details. The places of scoring are marked with small
thin lines on the continuation of fold lines outside the parts.
Do not be in a hurry with gluing - carefully check and shape the details until obtaining the exact and
correct fit. Before starting the work get hold of the necessary tools: scissors, sharp modeling knife,
blunt knife for scoring the fold lines, prickle, ruler, nippers and grinding paper. Additional materials
necessary for the assemblage are: sheet of cardboard with thickness approximately 0.5 mm, a piece
of wire with diameter 0.5 - 0.8 mm. Supply with proper glue. BISON Clear Adhesive, UHU or
similar are recommended as the most appropriate ones. Water based glue is not recommended.
Preparation for assembling includes gluing pages that contain formers, strengthening elements and
wheels on a cardboard.
Start with the interior of the cockpit /parts 1 and 2/. Then Assembly the nose sections 3, 4 and 5,
together with their formers. Note that the former 5c-5e is composite and is intended to carry the
wings. Be careful with it’s positioning.
Insert the cockpit interior in the segment 3, then glue segment 4 and 5 as it is shown on view A.
Keep the symmetry of the fuselage.
Continue with the rear segments of the fuselage, following view B. Note that the air intakes 14c are
not obligatory. You can miss their assemblage. The same holds true for the engine exhaust 17. It is
recommended not to miss these parts. If you’ll use them, cut their places on parts 14 and 18.
Add to the rear part of the fuselage the rear part of the cockpit 25, the flight control cowlings 26-29
and the vertical stabilizer 31,32. The sequence of the building process is shown on the view C.
Complete the nose part of the fuselage, following view D. Note that the front wheel housing 20 is
not obligatory. If you decide to use it, cut the corresponding black areas on parts 21 and 22. Do not
forget to add approximately 15 g weight in the nose to prevent sitting of your model on it’s tail.
Continue the assemblage as it is shown on view D. Add the interior parts – seats 12, gun sight 11,
controls 8-10, second cockpit instruments department 6 and anti safety frame 13. Then glue the
cockpit glassing 33-35 to the fuselage /view F/.
Leave apart the completed fuselage and start preparations of the wing assemblage. Assembly the
engine air intakes, then the reinforcing elements of the wing, together with the main undercarriage
housings, as it is shown on the view G and H. Then assembly the wing /view I/. Strictly keep the
geometrical shape of the wing and do not avoid twisting, controlling its shape during drying the glue.
Attach the wings and the engine air intakes to the fuselage /view J/. Keep strictly the symmetry, the
angle of attack and the dihedral angle. Then after careful forming glue the fuselage – wings cowlings
54-55. Note that before cutting the parts 54-55 during its contour you must make cuts on them in
continuation of the marks to their middle line.
Assembly the horizontal stabilizer /view K/, front and main undercarriage /views L and M/, external
fuel tanks /view N/ and the air brakes /view O/. The wheels 73, 80 should be made with consequent
glowing their disc segments from page 10. After during the glue round them by sand paper and paint
the edges with black flumaster or ink.
Finish the model, adding the horizontal stabilizer together with its cowling 63-68, undercarriage and
their covers and the all small details as it is shown on the view P.
Hint: The view P shows the model exactly as it should appear after finishing its building, but not in
color. Why don’t you give this view to your young brother or sun and give him a chance to paint it
by color pencils or aquarelles, following the cutouts as an instruction?
