Meet our Contributors: Paul Scarlata
Paul hails from the USA and is also contributing editor for
Firearms News, G&A Handguns
and
Shooting Times,
to name
but a few publications. He has written hundreds of articles
for
Magnum,
mainly on handguns, and has published several
books on military rifles.
He started shooting at the age of six, and says: “My late
father was an avid hunter and fisherman and taught me and
my two brothers the joys of the outdoors. Many of my fondest
memories are of the days we
all spent hunting and deep sea
fishing. I have been a member of
the firearms media for two and a
half decades now and contribute
to magazines in a half dozen
countries around the world. My
friends often accuse me of “not
having a real job”, to which I
reply, “Yeah, but I get paid for it
anyhow!”
Paul’s favourite sport is
USPSA/IPSC, his favourite cal-
ibre is 9mmP in handguns and
.223 for rifles; for concealed carry it is a Kahr PM9 pistol and
for holster-carry a Smith & Wesson M&P.
On his Bucket List: An all-original first version US Model
1892 Krag-Jorgensen rifle. These rifles currently cost over
$15000, if you can find one! If money was no object, his
handgun of choice would be a Nighthawk Custom War Hawk
Recon 1911 at $3995.

ground is in the Pongola area of KwaZulu-Natal – and pretty
much any other area where the Big Five roam free.
As for calibre choice, he prefers his .375H&H Magnum for
the bush and a .300H&H for the plains. When sport-shooting
