Hmm. As I recall Readisoft puts one out--but emulators are all limited as to
what they will do. What kind of telecom matters do you mean? Run a particular
telecom program? transfer a file downloaded to the Amiga 500?
In the meantime, I'll hit the back issues to see what emulators were
reviewed.

Ok, J.D., I looked through my collection, but the references go back to the
summer of 1988 at the latest. Appaarently there are 2 competing products that
emulate the C64 on the Amiga. Both are slow. Both allow some use of
peripherals. But from the sound of it (You can watch the ball disappear
before the Pak creature eats it, etc.), I doubt you would be able to use
either. Both appear to do their best using Basic, which good
telecommunications software isn't. At least not if one is going over 300 baud.
Both systems require a minimum of 512K. Both are very picky about what they
will run according to the various reviews. I think that purchase of either of
these products for your purpose is very much a "buyer beware" proposition.
(If they won't guarantee it will work with the software in writing or your
money back, I'd not buy it unless I had other files to transfer or the like.)
The two packages are: The 64 Emulator by Readysoft, Inc. P.O.Box 1222,
Lewiston, NY 17092 (phone 416-731-4175) and Go 64! by Software Insight
Systems 16E International Drive, East Grandby, Conn. 06026 (203/653-4589) The
prices listed (over a year ago) were 39.95 and 69.95 respectively.
Sorry I can't be more encouraging.
     Ted

The newspapers in the Cincinnati, Ohio area, have noted that certain local
politicos in the region have been under investigation for favoritism in
granting public contracts (kind words). Today's paper reports that the
policeman who had been investigating the matter has been suspended for wearing
his hair too long. That's All the politicos can find on him? That's one CLEAN
cop.
The midwest area-Indiana, Ohio, etc.-have had some snow this week... cold,
wet, heavy to shovel, 4 inches & up snow this week. There are broken tree
branches & power lines everywhere. The tree surgeons are so busy that only 1
in 7 calls could be answered in a given day & they have been moving the stuff
out of the way & letting true attention to the trees go til later. The Power
companies are in BAD repute. In a number of areas 1 of 6 people/businesses
had no power. The phone company got things back together in 48 hours, which
is why the power company has gotten LOTS of nasty phone calls lately. The
snow melted & this weekend, the sound of the power saw is heard throughout the
land.

Strange World Department
You've heard of Hell's Angels, the motorcycle gang/club, haven't you? The
interesting folks who have been tagged for selling drugs, general violence &
genuine traffic hazard quality? Hell's Angels (they are a CORPORATION these
days--I wonder if the rest of the corporations are consulting their lawyers
to see if they can erase that blot on the name corporation?) have sued one of
the Hollywood studio types for messing around with their registered
trademark...Hell's Angels, of course. Only in America, a trademark can only
exist as enforceable property rights when it is used in lawful businesses.
Use in unlawful business such as drug running, fraud, antitrust violations,
etc. is a ground for declaring the mark or former mark once more part of the
public domain. It will be interesting to discover whether the Hollywood types
will make the argument...'cause the Hollywood types are no angels either &
with that kind of charge, turn about is fair play in court, too.
Marks of Distinction: "Better than Mom's Meatloaf" is a trademark of the
Marriot Corporation. The folks who wrote that one for Marriot should entitle
their next book: The Art of Making Enemies.
D.O.A. for Halloween "Body by Fisher" You remember that stamped on the
side of alal those old cars, don't you? It's also a trademark for cosmetic,
plastic and reconstructive surgery owned by (predictably) one Dr. Fisher.
The Almighty and the car companies should both have him on their trick list
this year.
Section 89EZ for tax consulting services. This mark saw the light of day
around the time Congress started to move on repealing that section of the
Internal Revenue Code--'cause Easy it wasn't! This firm's "trick" came early.
"Bury the Habit" for a novelty plastic ashtray resembling a coffin. That
trademark says it all.
Other Horrors Consider the really frightening things in life:
The soul next to you on the airplane has something that's ticking, but it's
not a clock.
The gentleperson in the 3 piece suit at the door says: "I'm from the IRS.
You're being audited today!" in cheery tones.
Those garish signs that keep popping up on lawns, telephone poles,
everywhere in fact...They're done up in color combinations offensive even to
persons with no taste whatsoever. You don't know who those names belong to or
what they stand for? You'd better look them up or you may end up electing a
real horror in November!
Do you have an idea for a real fright? Post it right here!

An Interesting Sidebar:

The Hell's Angels have been busy for the last few years legitimizing
themselves by running charity functions (ie toys for tots) to demonstrate the
fact that they are a non-profit institution....(Shades of Baker, et al)
