The ALP-45DP is a “dual mode” locomotive, capable of drawing power from either overhead electrical wires or its own
pair of 12-cylinder Caterpillar diesel engines. These flexible locomotives were produced by Bombardier Transportation
in Kassel, Germany. AMT ordered 20 locomotives numbered 1350-1369 in 2008.
The locomotives, which arrived to AMT in June of 2011 run on the Mascouche Line (AMT) to Montreal Central Station.
They switch to electric operation at Mont-Royal, before entering the Mount Royal Tunnel. Typically, the locomotives pull
consists of 5-6 multi-level coaches.

The GP39-2 was offered by EMD as a fuel-efficient alternative to their very popular GP38-2 model. This efficiency re-
sulted from the use of a turbocharged 12-cylinder 645E3 diesel engine, as opposed to the non-turbocharged 16-cyl-
inder prime mover in the GP38-2. The use of a turbocharger increased the horsepower output from 2,000 to 2,300hp
with four fewer cylinders. One other benefit of the turbocharger is improved operation at higher altitudes where thin air
causes normally-aspirated diesels to lose power and produce excess smoke. The largest original fleet of GP39-2s was
assembled by the Santa Fe who, over the course of seven years, acquired a total of 106 units.
Our model represents a “phase 1” GP39-2 locomotive which was produced between 1974 and late 1976. The overall
appearance of a phase 1 model is similar to that of a GP38-2 except for the presence of a single turbocharged exhaust
stack. There were only four original owners of the phase 1 GP39-2 including Santa Fe, Reading, Delaware & Hudson and
a single-unit order for Kennecott Copper. Many of these units had interesting careers and nearly all are still in service
today operating for BNSF, Union Pacific, CSX, and Pacific Northwest shortline Portland & Western.

ANALoG (DC) oPERATIoN FEATURES:
• The LokSound Select Dual-Mode decoder allows your Atlas Gold Series locomotive to be used on DC
as well as on DCC layouts.
• Please note that the Atlas Quantum Engineer will NoT operate an Atlas Gold Series locomotive
equipped with a LokSound Select decoder on an analog (DC) layout. However, the sound and lighting
functions of the LokSound Select decoder in the Atlas Gold Series locomotive can be controlled by an
easy-to-use basic DCC system
• Also note that on a DC-powered layout, a DCC and sound equipped locomotive CANNoT be consisted
with another locomotive that does not also have both DCC and sound. (This statement does NoT apply
to DCC-equipped locomotives operating on a DCC layout.)
ESu SOuND FuNCtIONALItY FEAtuRES:
• over 20 sound effects are available, including engine start-up and shutdown, prime mover sounds
through all eight notches, bell, air horn, air compressor, dynamic brakes and more.
• There are 16 user-selectable horns, 2 user-selectable bells, and 2 user-selectable synchronized brake
squeals.
• Manual and Automatic Notching modes with the ability to change modes ”on the fly” are provided

The NRE Genset locomotive has been in regular production since 2006, with over 180 units produced to date. Gensets
are marketed as low-emission, reduced fuel consumption locomotives and tend to operate in metropolitan areas
where air pollution is a concern. Power for these locomotives is generated by 2 or 3 independent diesel engines which
produce 700 hp each. These engines engage and disengage as more or less horsepower is required.
This model includes all new body tooling and represents the next phase of NRE Genset production, unofficially referred
to as the “Genset II”. The primary spotting feature is a redesigned long hood which now includes a provision for dy-
namic brakes. The low nose is now noticeably shorter, due to the cab being positioned farther forward on the frame.
