Introduction
Smoothies are an absolute delight to make and drink, being a popular drink to have as a
breakfast or even a snack throughout the day. They are wonderfully refreshing and are a
great way for you to get you daily allowance of fruit and vegetables in an enjoyable way!
Whilst many people do not like eating fruit as it is, mix it up in to a smoothie and
suddenly the fruit becomes very tempting.
You can make these recipes as healthy and diet friendly as you like by using low sugar /
low fat versions of the ingredients. Instead of using a full fat yogurt in your smoothie, use
a reduced fat or even zero fat one to make it better for you.
Any recipe that calls for milk or any other dairy product in can be substituted for the soy
milk, dairy free equivalent with very little difference in taste. If you prefer you can use
rice milk or almond milk as a substitute, with almond milk adding some extra taste to the
smoothie itself.
All you need to get started making your own delicious smoothies are the ingredients listed
in the book and something to make the smoothie with. This can either be a smoothie
maker, a blender or a stick blender, all of which are perfectly suited to making smoothies.
These are great fun drinks to make and are worth trying for a breakfast – being packed full
of vital vitamins and minerals they make a great start to the day and can be a big help on
any healthy eating program.
