Magnus Carlsen is the new and old World Champion.
The
Norwegian secured a winning score of . - . thanks to a
victory in the th game with the white pieces, so the th
game was not needed.
The match was much tougher than the final score seems to
reflect. Anand had a lot of chances which he didn’t take
advantage of. If we look at the match and stop the games a er
move , Anand would have been the clear favorite, but the
games went on and Anand kept on making mistakes, which
Carlsen used to his advantage.
Clearly the critical moment of the match was game , with
a double blunder of both players. In games and Anand
could also have pushed Carlsen to the verge, but he missed
his chances and of course in the game Anand was clearly
better out of the opening, had more time and a very pleasant
position. But then what happened next was really strange...
Anand totally lost control and just gave an exchange without
any objective reason for it, so Carlsen just took it and the
match was over.
Overall we witnessed a very fighting match with a lot of
ups and downs, which clearly shows how the tension was
a ecting both players and under such pressure, even the best
players can crack.
On almost the same day the Ukrainian Championship came
to an end, where the first place was shared between Kuzubov
and Eljanov with . / and a full point ahead of Korobov and
Ponomariov, who shared the places - th with . / .
The play of Ivanchuk, who started the tournament badly and
continued playing interesting chess but was making too many
mistakes, was a big disappointment to many chess fans from
all over the word.

The Russian Super Cup was won by Jakovenko who won the
final match against Matlakov . - .
The Nakamura-Aronian match in Saint Louis ended - in
the classical control and . - . in favor of Nakamura in the
blitz. The games were very spectacular but far from great, as
neither of the players seemed to be in their best shape.
Now let’s come to the current events:
What is probably the strongest open tournament in the
history of chess has begun in Doha, Qatar, where the top seeds
are Giri, Kramnik and Mamedyarov and the field includes
players over
ELO.
Already in a few days the Russian Super Final will start, but
this year it is going to be much weaker than in previous
editions....
As usual we are commenting on the most exciting moments

FIDE Youth Chess Olympiad Hosted by Hungary Already
Breaks Records
Only four months a er the Chess Olympiad in Tromso where
the greatest chess players of the world competed against each
other it is already time to have a look at the best talents of the
next generation. In December this year Hungary may organize
a Chess Olympiad for the first time, the competition for youth
aged under years. The event takes place in the city of Gyõr
and with more than a month to the start the organizers have
already confirmed the entries of more participant nations than
ever before at any Youth Chess Olympiad. It really seems that
the best chess talents of all five continents will be present in
Hungary between th- nd December. Awarding the right of
organization to Hungary is a clear sign of high international
recognition of chess life in the country which is rightly confirmed
by the fact that Judit Polgar who has been leading the FIDE
world rankings for more than
years has agreed to be the
face of the event representing talent and the Hungarian chess
traditions all in one person or we could even say legend.
By mentioning Judit Polgar let us not forget that a er FIDE
tightened on a rule that had existed earlier participation of girls
are now guaranteed. In each team a maximum four of the five
team members can be a boy.

The th game of the match- and at the same time the last
one- was very dramatic. We will see how Anand is got a
great position out of the opening, played the great b move,
a er which it was clear that Black was doing more than fine
without any big risk of losing the game, and then he suddenly
sacrificed the exchange without any reason and got himself in
a very bad/ dangerous position where Carlsen didn’t give him
any more chances of playing the th game, as he secured a
. points to . lead. A very sad end for Anand who could
have turned around the match or at least have gotten a good
mood for the th game by making a safe draw.
