Track 6: Listening Test for Unit 3

[T = Tom; M = Mum]

[phone conversation. Tom’s a Brit in Australia.]

T:              Hi, Mum! It’s Tom.

M:              Tom! Darling! How are you? Where have you been? You haven’t phoned for weeks. Dad and I were so worried …

T:              Yeah, yeah. Sorry I didn’t phone before.

M:              Is everything ok? Are you all right? How’s Australia?

T:              Australia? Oh, great. Everything’s great. Er, Mum, I’ve got some news. Are you sitting down?

M:              What?

T:              Well, I’ve met someone – a woman.

M:              Oh!

T:              Yeah. An Australian. Her name’s Kazz.

M:              Kazz?

T:              Her real name’s Karen, but everyone calls her Kazz.

M:              Where did you meet her?

T:              At Bondi Beach. I was selling ice creams and she was surfing.

M:              Oh. That’s nice. What does she do? Is she a student, like you?

T:              Well, she hasn’t got a job at the moment. She’s thinking about acting, but she’s not sure what she wants to do.

M:              Oh. How old is she?

T:              Well, she’s a bit older than me. Ten years older, in fact. But, Mum, she’s intelligent, and beautiful and funny – and we got married.

M:              What?

T:              Yeah, at the end of last month. On the beach where we met. It was so romantic. And now we’re going to have a baby. Isn’t it exciting? We’re coming back to England next weekend. She’s never been to England before. Oh, Mum, you’ll love Kazz.

M:              Oh, Tom.
