HEMI PERFORMANCE BUILD GUIDE
This MOPAR HEMI Performance Build Guide was developed
for the 5.7L Dodge Magnum, Charger and Chrysler 300C and it
is constituted of the following parts:

Depending upon the vehicle MY a different Powertrain Control
Module upgrade will be required:
A set of non MDS Roller Lifters included in the
5.7L Hemi
Performance Camshaft & Lifters kit is required to assure
optimal valve motion at higher engine speeds obtained with
the MOPAR performance camshaft.

. Powertrain Control Module upgrade:
This Powertrain Control Module (PCM) upgrade is designed
to support the parts described in this performance build
guide. Among other performance improvements, the MOPAR
PCM upgrade has optimized fueling and spark settings to
take full advantage of the MOPAR Performance Camshaft as
well as the MOPAR Cold Air Intake System, Performance
Headers and Exhaust.
SPECIAL NOTE:
ELECTRONIC THROTTLE RELEARN
Dodge MAGNUM/ CHARGER and Chrysler 300C vehicles
are equipped with Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) system
and require the ETC RELEARN procedure to be performed
after the installation of a new PCM. This procedure reads the
dual Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor (APPS) to make sure
that idle and full pedal travel can be reached on both
sensors.
This procedure
requires the use of the
appropriate scan tool.
Failure to perform the ETC
RELEARN will cause the throttle not to respond to the
accelerator pedal. Therefore the engine will run only at idle
speed. A Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set and the
Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) activated.
3. Performance Torque Converter:
To better utilize the new torque characteristic produced by
the MOPAR Performance Camshaft, the MAGNUM/ 300C
Performance Torque Converter needs to be included in the
MOPAR 5.7L Hemi MAGNUM/ CHARGER/ 300C
Performance build.
4. Transmission Control Module upgrade:
Proper operation of the Performance Torque Converter requires
installation of the Transmission Control Module (TCM) upgrade.
The MOPAR TCM upgrade has optimized shift schedule and
performance tuned AutoStick® calibration with hold in-gear
feature. The hold in-gear prevents the transmission from up-
shifting at red-line RPM in AutoStick® mode allowing for sportier
driving.

This proven combination of parts, are required to be
assembled together to support a gain up to 40HP at the
wheels.
DEVELOPOMENT NOTES
The following development notes are to guide you in the
MOPAR Hemi Performance build. These notes are in addition to
the install instructions provided with all MOPAR performance
parts.
1. Performance Camshaft & Lifters Kit:
The core of this performance build is the MOPAR
Performance Camshaft included in the 5.7L Hemi
Performance Camshaft & Lifters kit.

SPECIAL NOTE:
POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE
The MOPAR 5.7L
Transmission
Control Module upgrade shift
schedule has higher red-line RPM shifts (accelerator pedal fully
depressed) than the production shift schedule. To support this
performance shift schedule the vehicle MUST be equipped with
the MOPAR Powertrain Control Module (PCM) upgrade.
Failure to install the appropriated PCM upgrade will prevent the
automatic transmission from up-shifting at fully depressed
accelerator pedal driving condition (WOT).

BUILDING SEQUENCE
1. Install all parts except the MOPAR 5.7L Powertrain Control
Module upgrade.
2. Drive to your
Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep®
nearest dealer or to
an auto shop of your preference equipped with the
appropriate Scan tool.
3. Replace vehicle’s original Powertrain Control Module with the
MOPAR 5.7L Powertrain Control Module upgrade.
4. After Powertrain Control Module exchange, perform the
following operations using the appropriate Scan tool:
4.1. Update Powertrain Control Module VIN,
4.2. Update Powertrain Control Module Odometer,
4.3. Execute the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) RELEARN
procedure
NOTES:
a) Failure to perform VIN update will prevent engine from
cranking.
b) Failure to perform the ETC RELEARN will cause the
throttle not to respond to the accelerator pedal only
allowing engine to run at idle speed. It will also set the
Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) and activate the
Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL).
c) The above operations are required only once when a
new Powertrain Control Module is installed.
5. Keep your original Powertrain Control Module.
6. If necessary, use a scan tool to erase any DTC’s from PCM.

parts prove defective following their purchase, the buyer

are voided if the vehicle or parts are used for competition
or if they fail as a result of modification.
