RISING STAR
His name is Robert Douglas Thomas Pattinson, and
today he is one of the biggest stars on the planet.
He works a lot in the USA, but he is from London,
England, where he was born on 13 May 1986.
He went to Tower House School until the age of 12,
then The Harrodian School in Barnes, London.
His mother works for a modelling agency and his
father sells vintage cars. He has two sisters, Lizzy, a
singer, and Victoria, who works in advertising.
He started taking piano lessons at the age of three,
and he plays the guitar very well. He also writes his
own music and sings.

WORKING IN LONDON
London attracts tourists from all over the world. But
what is it like working with those tourists in one of the
world’s busiest cities? We asked six people.
1 Mark Lester, taxi driver
‘I’ve driven a cab around central London for almost 20
years. It’s a great job if you don’t mind sitting around all
day! To be honest, the long hours can be tough. Most of
my passengers like a chat, and I enjoy pointing out
interesting places to tourists. Yeah, it’s a good job,
really.’
2 Daniel Jones, waiter
‘I started working in a restaurant to earn some extra
money. At the moment, I work in the evenings, and at
weekends. It isn’t a full-time job. I’m a drama student
and I’m going to be a famous actor one day. The
tourists here are nice, especially when they leave a tip.’
3 Sarah Doyle, tour guide
‘I studied foreign languages at university, so this is a
great way to practise them. I enjoy talking about the
history and culture of the city I was born in. We have to
walk a lot, but one day a week I work in our office, so I
get some rest. Negatives? Well, the uniform is a bit
uncomfortable, but apart from that it’s a dream job.’
